Today we celebrate 110 years of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc!

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated is the first African American sorority and was founded on January 15, 1908 on the campus of Howard University by nine college students.  Since then, the sorority has inducted over 300,000 college-trained members and continues to shine as a globally-impactful organization constituting 1,007 chapters in 42 states, the District of Columbia, the US Virgin Islands, the Bahamas, Germany, Liberia, South Korea, Japan, Canada, South Africa and the Middle East.



Alpha Kappa Alpha maintains its focus in two key arenas: the personal and professional development of each of its members and galvanizing its membership into an organization that strives to be on the forefront of social change. Notable members include: Phylicia Rashad, Loretta Devine, Toni Morrison, Maya Angelou, Jada Pinkett Smith, Julie Dash, Alice Walker and Cathy Hughes.
