Donna Summer --- the Queen of Disco --- died this morning following a battle with breast cancer.
"Early this morning, we lost Donna Summer Sudano, a woman of many gifts, the greatest being her faith," the singer's family said in a statement. "While we grieve her passing, we are at peace celebrating her extraordinary life and her continued legacy. Words truly can't express how much we appreciate your prayers and love for our family at this sensitive time."
Summer was a five-time Grammy winner who was the first artist to have three consecutive double albums reach No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard chart. She became a superstar in the '70s with iconic hits "Last Dance," "Hot Stuff," and "Bad Girls."
She is survived by her husband - singer and producer Bruce Sudano; their daughters, Brooklyn and Amanda; and Summer's daughter, Mimi, from a previous marriage.
