Hardly a Sunday has gone by in recent months without reports of churches being attacked in Nigeria. Militant terrorist group Boko Haram is said to blame for the rising death toll, having declared an unofficial war on the central government. Since the beginning of the year they have killed over 450 people, largely focusing on church-goers during and after service. The Islamic group allegedly bombed five churches on Sunday, killing at least 36 people.

The government has urged Christians to not retaliate --- although a witness reported that young Christians had road blocked a border and were pulling Muslims out of cars to kill them. It seems that Boko Haram believes in order to get Islamic sharia law placed across Nigeria, murders and threats will have to suffice. As the government and NGOs scramble to restore stability, one can only hope that a peaceful resolution will be next on the horizon.
