What is your most memorable contribution as a Campus Queen?:
One of my most memorable contributions as Cheyney University's Campus Queen was initiating health programs and activities centered around educating the Cheyney community about Breast Cancer and raising awareness for survivors. The first component of this initiative was an activity I hosted called "Kiss Away Breast Cancer". I decorated a board in the Marcus Foster Student Union building centered around my 'PINKtober' theme. The display included interactive myth v. fact information pieces, ribbons and pink decorations. To make students aware of this activity board, I set up an information table where I provided further details and data about breast cancer. While informing my peers and members of my campus, I provided pink lipstick for them to apply, press against the board and "kiss away" breast cancer for victims and survivors. This was an impactful event because not only did I find out that many of my peers and faculty had either been affected by breast cancer or survived the disease themselves, I was able to shine some light on a sensitive but serious issue that people should be educated on. As participants were thanking me for doing this event, I felt a sense of unity, because although the mission began with my intent to inform - I was ultimately able to comfort and support those of my community. It is moving to know that that a simple contribution could have such a resonating impact.
