Most memorable contribution as a Campus QueenThe most memorable event of my reign as Miss Cheyney University of Pennsylvania 2012-2013 was having the opportunity to organize a Breast Cancer Awareness Walk/Run on campus at the O' Shields-Stevenson Stadium. Breast cancer is the most common cancer among African American women under the age of forty. As early as the 1980's, women have been diagnosed with breast cancer at an alarming rate. Unfortunately, I never had the opportunity to meet my maternal grandmother because she had breast cancer. As part of my Health Awareness Platform, I wanted to make a difference and join the fight for a cure. Along with Cheyney Men’s Basketball, members of the SCGA, friends, family and alumni, I walked from the McKnight-Rogers Health Center to the O' Shields-Stevenson track where we walked seven laps in honor of a loved one, someone currently battling this disease , or simply for support. Despite the over cast in the sky and the light rain, students came out and walked together. As a result of this walk/run, we raised $700.00 for the Susan G. Komen fight for a cure foundation. It really warmed my heart to see the outpouring of support from students, family and faulty.
