A Chicago-based television news reporter has launched her own business in response to her own “hair headaches.”

According to a press release sent to EBONY.com, Brandis Friedman just became sick and tired of allowing someone else to have control of her locs.

Like many busy professional women, Friedman turned to blowout salons to keep her hair looking polished between trips to a full-service salon. Her career made keeping her hair up to par mandatory.

But after awhile, Friedman grew tired of feelings frustrated about her hair.

“After the sixth or seventh bad blowout, my husband and I looked at each other and said, ‘This is ridiculous,” said Friedman. “Black women spend more time, care and money on their hair than anyone, but we’re being overlooked by this booming part of the hair industry!”

To solve this issue while addressing the needs of other busy women of color, Friedman and her husband, Jason, launched BlazeDry. The mobile blowout service, which has been around since December, is designed for women with textured hair.

Here’s how it works.

Interested clients will book an appointment via the company’s website, blazedry.com with one of their stylists. All of the company’s stylists have experience working with textured and African-American hair. The stylist will then travel to the clients place of residence and provide the blowout, usually in an hour’s time (or less).

The cost for the service is $50.

Currently, BlazeDry is only offered in the Chicagoland area, but Freidman says the response has been encouraging.

“BlazeDry stylists have already served clients all the way from Wilmette to Northwest Indiana,” says Friedman. “We’ve gotten great feedback, and clients are already referring their friends to us. We’re excited to help meet the needs of even more busy women in the new year.”

The co-founders are looking to expand to more markets, including Washington, D.C and Atlanta, according to the press release.
