If you frequent Dunkin’ Donuts, you may begin to notice a change in how you get your coffee. According to the Chicago Tribune, the major food and beverage chain has plans to eliminate the use of foam cups by 2020.
The decision comes from the company’s motivation the eliminate what it estimates as a billion of the cups annually from the waste stream.
On Wednesday, Dunkin’ announced that the polystyrene foam cups used by the brand will be completely phased out in two years. The chain plans to replace foam cups with double-walled paper cups at its locations in the U.S.
This spring, New York and California will be the first states to experience the change.
The replacement cups, made out of paper, will retain heat just as well as the foam cups, the company said.
