A Parisian lawyer-turned-entrepreneur is the only Black woman to own a Motel in Marrakech, Morocco.
Black Enterprise reports that Meryanne Loum-Martin is the founder of the Jnane Tamsna. It’s a boutique hotel located in Marrkech.
Loum-Martin and her husband purchased land where the hotel was built in 2000 and less than a year later, they built the Jnane Tamsna from the ground up.
“At that time, I was a Black woman in a country with a low percentage of Black people,” Loum-Martin told Black Enterprise. “I didn’t speak the language and the field of construction was very much a world of men who are known to ignore women.”
Now, all of Loum-Martin’s hard work has paid off. In addition to five-star reviews, the owners have enjoyed having their business featured in various publications like Elle, Town & Country and Vogue, to name a few.
The venue has been the location of events such as “The IMARA Retreats: the Colored Girl”, which is a Black female empowerment retreat.
Loum-Martin told Black Enterprise that she has no problems of slowing down.
