On June 11, the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation (LADF) hosted its fourth annual Blue Diamond Gala. The star-studded event, co-hosted by Arsenio Hall and George Lopez, featured a performance by John Legend.  Nearly 1,700 guests attended, and $2.2 million was raised for charity.

EBONY spoke to Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp, who revealed his favorite Legend songs, which include “All of Me.” Upon hearing that, the singer said, “I hope everybody is singing along. We’re going to have fun tonight.”

The money raised will go toward the expansion of the LADF’s direct youth programs in underprivileged communities in greater Los Angeles. Included among them are Dodgers RBI,a development program that aims to increase participation in baseball to help to improve access to education, literacy, health and wellness resources; and Dodgers Dreamfields, an initiative that builds and refurbishes baseball and softball fields for the youth to have safe spaces for positive recreational activity in their neighborhoods. This year, the LADF will be constructing its 50th field.
