Thought you could only love Scandal? Then wait ’til you check out Shonda Rhimes’ latest creation, How to Get Away with Murder, because this show is HOT!

In case you’ve been under a rock all summer, allow me to introduce you to Annalise Keating, a defense attorney who also doubles as a no-nonsense law professor at Middleton University.  Keating is wonderfully played by the Oscar-nominated actress Viola Davis, who’ll surely gain more praise in this role. Annalise Keating and Scandal’s Olivia Pope are part of a growing list of Black American female TV characters who are powerful yet complex and, for lack of a better term, human. (We can’t always be the mythical overly confident, strong Black woman all of the time.)

“What’s more important is that you see so many African-American women in roles that are so well-developed in terrific narratives where they get to shine, where they get to not just be the third girl from the left. That’s even more terrific,” Davis said in a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight. Amen to that!

Murder will debut September 25 at 10 p.m. ET, following Scandal’s Season Four premiere at 9 p.m. ET. Grey’s Anatomy’s 11th and final season will premiere at 8 p.m. ET. Shonda Rhimes owns Thursday nights on ABC.

Check out my seven reasons why you should watch How to Get Away with Murder in two weeks.

1. Suspenseful opening. Without giving away too much, I can tell you that the opening scene will pique your curiosity, leaving you to wonder how so and so ended up where they did doing what they’re doing. I know it’s vague, but it’ll make sense in two weeks!

2. Professor Annalise Keating. When a professor walks in saying, “Good morning. I don’t know what terrible things you’ve done in your life up to this point but clearly your karma’s out of balance to get assigned to my class,” clearly that’s a sign to a) drop the class and try your luck next semester or b) buckle up because you’re in for a ride. It also lets you know that she’s no punk. And as the pilot reveals, she’s no angel, either, which is a good thing. Yep, Annalise has a closet full of skeletons waiting to fall out and we’ll be waiting to watch.
