Today, January 16, would have been fallen singer Aaliyah’s 39th birthday. Several fans and celebs took to social media to pay tribute to the “At Your Best” vocalist, including longtime friend and collaborator, Missy Elliott.
The Virginia native tweeted a lengthy message in memory of Aaliyah with a number of throwback pictures featuring the two of them together.
“Aaliyah so many people ❤️ your Style & Music! I wish they all got a chance to meet you to see how CARING you were to EVERYONE you met! I CAN STILL HEAR YOU LAUGH & me you @Timbaland joking😌we MISS YOU so much but I know you are surrounded by ANGELS 4 your BDAY😇🎂🍰 WE LOVE U,” Missy said.

Aaliyah died August 25, 2001 after her private plane crashed on the way back from shooting final music video, “Rock the Boat,” in the Caribbean.
