After weeks of rumors, discussions, and (seemingly successful) petitions, Oxygen has confirmed that they officially pulled the plug on All My Babies’ Mamas–an oft-criticized special set to feature “rapper” Shawty Lo, his 11 children, and the 10 women he fathered them with.

According to an Oxygen spokesperson, there were a few misconceptions about the show. The network has come forward to say that All My Babies’ Mamas was a one hour special in development, not a series. The spokesperson also claims that they never had an official deal with Shawty Lo and that the rapper and his family were considered for the show, but the production company was considering other families as well.

From the network’s official statement: “As part of our development process, we have reviewed casting and decided not to move forward with the special.  We will continue to develop compelling content that resonates with our young female viewers and drives the cultural conversation.”

The Change.org petition demanding cancelation of what was believed to be a series garnered a great deal of support. Though the network did not acknowledge the protests when explaining their decision to kill All My Babies’ Mamas, petition creator Sabrina Lamb feels that her message was heard loud and clear: “I am pleased that Oxygen Media has heard the outrage of over 37,000 consumers and shareholders who said, ‘enough is enough. We will not support any network and advertiser which exploits the plight of children and targets young women with stereotypical, dangerous, unsafe messages. This petition, this victory is for them.”
