After this week’s election results, many of us are in need of a good ole fashioned distraction. Thankfully, David Talbert’s new family comedy, Almost Christmas hits theaters nationwide today, bringing with it a huge helping of  laughter.

The film centers around Walter (Danny Glover), the patriarch of a big, dysfunctional family. He loves his children and grandchildren dearly and only wants one thing for Christmas–everyone to get along. When the whole family comes home for the holidays, drama–and lots of jokes–ensues, and their bond is tested. While there are some difficult moments between the family, love and laughter save the day.

Though Danny Glover is known as an actor who takes on serious roles, he held his own on set with comedians like Mo’Nique and JB Smoove.

“It was hard for any of us to keep from laughing,” Glover confessed.

“Most people think of me as a serious actor because they think of me as Mister [from The Color Purple], and there wasn’t nothing you could laugh about with Mister,” he said before explaining he has a great sense of humor.

Mo’Nique, who is of course hilarious in this film, said she took the role to work alongside Glover, a legend.

“To be able to sit across the table from our living legend, and to be fed that kind of greatness is priceless,” she explained.
