Ava DuVernay’s A Wrinkle In Time will bring your sweetest dreams and most haunting nightmares to life. The trailer opens with this question, “What if we are here for a reason? What if we are part of something truly divine? Imagine, 91 billion light-years traveled like that.”

Based on the 1963 novel by Madeleine L’Engle, DuVernay has updated the time-bending science fiction odyssey for the present day. Newcomer Storm Reid leads the expansive cast, which includes Oprah Winfrey, Mindy Kaling, Reese Witherspoon and Chris Pine. The trailer follows Meg Murray (Reid), her brother Charles Wallace (Deric McCabe) and her friend Calvin (Levi Miller) who embark on an epic adventure to rescue Meg’s government scientist father Dr. Alex Murray (Pine) who is trapped on an evil planet called Camazotz.

With an expressive budget of $100 million DuVernay’s trailer gives us a glimpse of all of the distant worlds that Meg and her crew visit. And with a massive $100 million budget the Selma director allows us to really explore. On their journey the trio encounters three mysterious women, Mrs. Which (Winfrey), Mrs. Whatsit (Witherspoon) and Mrs. Who (Kaling) who serve as their guides.

“My whole process with this film was, what if?” DuVernay told Entertainment Weekly. “With these women, I wondered, could we make them women of different ages, body types, races? Could we bring in culture, bring in history in their costumes? And in the women themselves, could we just reflect a fuller breadth of femininity?”

The new trailer includes a stirring narration by Winfrey as well as a cover of “Sweet Dreams” by the ’80s band Eurythmics. After viewing it you will question everything you see. Watch the trailer below.
