History was made in Barbados on Thursday after the country elected its first female prime minister.

Mia Amor Mottley, head of Barbados’s Labour Party, handily defeated current Prime Minister Freundel Stuart, after her party secured all 30 seats in the country’s House of Assembly, HuffPost reports.

Mottley ran on the platform that would address the country’s high taxes and rising cost of living, which has become a major issue since the global financial crisis in negatively impacted the Caribbean nation’s economy in 2009.

Rihanna, who was born and raised in Barbados, celebrated the news on Instagram on Saturday.

“Say hello to my new prime minister and most importantly the FIRST FEMALE prime minister of Barbados,” she wrote.
