The work of Alvin Ailey has long been revered, imitated and praised. Because of his unquestionable impact on the art of dance, the choreographer’s story will soon be told on the big screen, as Fox Searchlight recently closed a deal to develop a biopic focused on the influential artist.

Deadline reports Fox Searchlight will be working with producers, including Grammy winner Alicia Keys, to bring Ailey’s story to the masses. They also have the support of the Ailey organization, which holds the rights to Ailey’s choreography. The studio has also secured the rights to Jennifer Dunning’s biography of the legend,  Alvin Ailey: A Life In Dance.

Other producers include Keys’ partners, Judy Kinberg and Susan Lewis, as well as Rachel Cohen and Jana Edelbaum from iDeal Partners.
