Kenya Barris may be taking his creative genius elsewhere pretty soon, as new reports claim the Black-ish creator is attempting to get out of his overall deal with ABC.

Barris is reportedly looking to follow in How to Get Away With Murder creator Shonda Rhimes’ footsteps, recently having initial talks with streaming giant Netflix, according to The Jasmine Brand.

The reported departure comes amid reports ABC pulled an episode of his Emmy winning show that centered on NFL players and protesters because of ‘creative differences.’

A spokesperson for ABC had this to say to Variety.

“One of the things that has always made Black-ish so special is how it deftly examines delicate social issues in a way that simultaneously entertains and educates. However, on this episode there were creative differences we were unable to resolve.”

The television exec is already working with Netflix on a feature film reboot of Shaft starring Samuel L. Jackson, and is currently penning the script to Coming to America 2, starring Eddie Murphy.
