Nicki Minaj Snags Third No. 1 with “Anaconda”

Maybe it’s the downright freaky-deak lyrics or the booty-wobbling video that has fans obsessed with Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda,” but whatever the case, the track just earned the bottom-heavy MC her third number one on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. (It probably was the video.) Following her previous chart-toppers “Moment 4 Life” (featuring Drake) and “Make Me Proud” (Drizzy featuring Nicki), the lustful hit is clearly also Ms. Minaj’s first number one without Drake. (Ahhh, the power of a little twerking…) Nonetheless, congrats to Ms. Minaj!

Wale Leaves Roc Nation

After five years of rocking with the Roc, Wale has made his grand exit. Signed to Roc Nation’s management since 2009, the MMG rapper’s decision to leave supposedly had nothing to do with a falling out with the company, but was a move to advance his career. (So no, his spilling that drink on Jay Z at the 2012 BET Awards had nothing to do with it. Just in case you were wondering.) The D.C. MC is said to be making a move to 77 North Management, whose team members also help manage the career of LeBron James. Now maybe we can finally get a release date for The Album About Nothing.

Dave Chappelle to Host Common’s AAHH! Fest in Chicago

Dave Chappelle has had an eventful year thus far, coming back with a big comedy extravaganza at Radio City Music Hall and all. But apparently he’s not done yet, because the seasoned comic is set to host Common’s AAHH! Fest in Chicago on September 20. (We all know Dave loves him some music festivals.) The event will include performances by De La Soul, Jay Electronica, MC Lyte, Lupe Fiasco, Lil Herb, “a special surprise guest,” and Mr. Common Sense himself. Chi-town native Rhymefest will also present a community showcase featuring some under-18, girl-friendly love songs from Diggy Simmons and young local talents.
