Not only will Misty Copeland enter the history books as one of most famous Black ballerinas of the last half-century, but she’ll also be recognized as the first African-American principal dancer of the American Ballet Theater.
Her most recent feat is one of the many milestones the star has achieved since joining the 75-year-old company 14 years ago. Performing as a soloist with the prestigious troupe for nearly a decade, she scored another first last week when she starred in Swan Lake – making her the only African-American to do so with the ensemble at the Met.
