BET’s The New Edition Story was a certified hit, with fans praising the made-for-television biopic’s accuracy, execution and stand-out performances.

In fact, the flick was so successful that the network has green-lit a follow up focusing on the group’s most controversial member, Bobby Brown, set to debut this fall.

The Bobby Brown Story will pick up where the New Edition film left off, chronicling the talented but troubled singer’s exit from the popular ’80s boy band through his solo success, his affair with Janet Jackson and marriage to pop icon Whitney Houston, according to Deadline. Woody McClain will reprise his role as “The King of R&B” in the two-part mini-series, joined by Get Out’s Lil Rel Howery, Laz Alonso, Mekhi Phifer, T.K. Carter, Lance Gross, Alyssa Goss and Sandi McCree. Production began today in Atlanta.

The network claims the biopic will largely be about redemption, as through sobriety, Brown learns to be a better man, husband and father — finding love again and re-marrying in 2012.
