Greenleaf will return for the second half of season two with some explosive revelations.

“Only God knows why people do what they do,” Lynn Whitfield’s character Lady Mae says in the haunting sneak peak of the mid-season premiere of OWN’s hit drama.

In the clip, a violently bruised and battered Grace (Merle Dandridge) stands in the aftermath of a volatile fight with her Uncle Mac (GregAlan Williams). As she washes the blood off of her body and gets photographed by the police, a stunning rendition of “Take My Hand, Precious Lord” plays in the background.

Greenleaf follows the Greenleaf family and the happenings of their megachurch, Calvery Baptist. Things aren’t as holy as they may appear as secrets, lies and scandals brew beneath the surface.

This season, Jacob (Lamman Rucker) has split with his family to join their long-time rival church Triumph Ministries. His parents Bishop James (Keith David) and Lady Mae are dealing with their own past and present indiscretions. Meanwhile, Grace has become obsessed with bringing her Uncle Mac to justice after the police have failed to prosecute him for molesting young women, including her now deceased sister, Faith. Deborah Joy Winans, Kim Hawthorne, Tye White, Desiree Ross and Lovie Simone also star in the critically acclaimed series.

Tim Reid and LeToya Luckett will join the cast for the duration of the season. Oprah Winfrey also returns as Lady Mae’s sister, Mavis McCready

The second half of season two of Greenleaf debuts with a two-night premiere on Aug. 15 and 16 at 10 p.m. ET.
