“To have booty, it was considered to be fat in the modeling world. But I helped changed the minds of what booty was.”
This comes from curvaceous model Coco Austin, who was recently lambasted for claiming to have opened the door for thick women to be seen as desirable.
In a lengthy Instagram post, the mother and wife of actor Ice-T shared a photo of herself from her early modeling days, rocking a barely-there swimsuit while explaining she started “the derriere phenomenon” years “before Kim Kardashian and Nicki Minaj” were on the scene.
She also credited Jennifer Lopez and the late Anna Nicole Smith with popularizing bigger butts.
“During my time it was pretty much J.Lo that was making waves with the derriere phenomenon. Of course, I need to give props to Anna Nicole Smith for also seeing this vision,’ added the former reality star.
“I helped history. I don’t want to toss it aside like it was nothing.”
She went on, “I helped pave the way for thick girls during the skinny genre (during the Kate Moss days what they call the waif era) to be noticed as beautiful…This was also back before the plastic surgery craze.”

Plenty of social media followers called out the curvy celeb, saying there’s no way a White woman could have “paved the way” for thick women in any regard. See some of the best reactions below.
