Colin Kaepernick’s attorneys are planning to seek subpoenas for President Donald Trump and members of his administration in his collusion case against the NFL, a move intended to look at the owners’ ties with the president, sources told CNN.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and owners were already deposed in the case.

The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback has been unemployed since the end of the 2016 NFL season, following his decision to kneel during the national anthem as a way to bring attention to racial injustice and police brutality in the country.

In October, he filed a claim saying that NFL owners were working together to keep him from playing in the league.

Trump inserted himself in the controversy and said that NFL owners should fire players who refused to stand for the national anthem.

“Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, you’d say, ‘Get that son of a b*tch off the field right now. Out! He’s fired,” Trump said at a rally in Alabama in September 2017.

Kaepernick’s legal team is also seeking a subpoena for Vice President Mike Pence, who left a game between the Indianapolis Colts and the 49ers in October saying that he won’t,”dignify any event that disrespects our soldiers, our flag, or our national anthem.”

In May, the NFL announced a new policy stating that players would have to stand for the national anthem if they are on the field, but have the option to stay in the locker room during the song.

Goodell said that teams would be fined if they were not standing during the anthem.
