BET is in the midst of a major revamp, as the series recently cancelled The Quad while announcing the addition of a Boomerang reboot to the roster. Alongside the Eddie Murphy remake, the network is also set to produce new series American Soul, based on the life and career of Soul Train creator, Don Cornelius.

The 10-episode drama will explore Cornelius’ trials and tribulations as a young, ambitious and Black impresario in the 1970s with plenty of personal demons to conquer as well, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It will also highlight how much Soul Train has influenced American culture, including fashion, dance and the mainstream acceptance of Black Music.

BET will also bring new series, Peachtree Place, to their network, according to THR. The Will Packer-produced series will focus on, “five thirty-somethings living in Atlanta as they try to build professional and personal lives they can be proud of, but the one thing they don’t have keeps impeding their progress: love.”
