Gabby Douglas carries herself with grace and poise both on and off the gymnastics mat. Having finally learned of the immense backlash her hair has received, the gold medalist spoke with reporters to share her her thoughts on the controversial debate.

"I don't know where this is coming from," Douglas said in a statement to the AP. "What's wrong with my hair? I'm like, 'I just made history and people are focused on my hair?' It can be bald or short; it doesn't matter about my hair."

"Nothing is going to change," she said. "I'm going to wear my hair like this during beam and bar finals. You might as well just stop talking about it."

Gabby has given her competitors a run for their money by racking up two gold medals for both an outstanding team and individual all-around performance. Although she came in last place in the uneven bars competition, the "Flying Squirrel" will get another chance to win gold on the balance beam. Either way, this young athlete has proven herself not only one of the best gymnasts in the world, but also one of the most mature.
