Jermaine Dupri Defends Mariah Carey’s Angolan Performance

Pop diva Mariah Carey was deemed divalicious persona non grata last week when news spread of her performance at a Red Cross event orchestrated by nefarious Angolan dictator Jose Eduardo dos Santos and his family. (Click here if you missed that.) As her manager (and the guy responsible for arranging the setup), Jermaine Dupri came to the rescue, telling the president of the country’s Human Rights Foundation that they did nothing wrong.

J.D. claims they didn’t know anything about Angola’s political history, and were approached to do the job by one of the Red Cross’s middlemen. He even threw in a line about how Obama rubbed elbows with the Angolan ruler in the past (as if that makes things any better), and said M.C. shouldn’t have to apologize—even after she faced the same heat for hitting high notes for Muammar Gaddafi years ago, and promised to be more responsible with her performance choices in the future. Guess the moral of this story is, money talks!
