Who says teenage Internet users have no imagination?

If anyone would disagree it would be Akilah Johnson of Washington D.C., who won the 2016 Doodle 4 Google Competition with her Google Doodle artwork called “Google in my Afrocentric Life.”

Google Doodles are takes on the search engine’s logo that are posted online every day. Some are thematic, while others are illustrate holidays or events. Akilah, 15, was one of 100,000 participants from all over the country who entered the contest, whose theme was “What makes me…me.”

Her picture was displayed prominently on Monday morning and throughout the day on Google.com.

Akilah’s entry was a box braid that spelled out the word “Google” surrounded by symbols related to her daily life ranging from a woman wearing natural hair to a “Black Lives Matter” picket sign to the names of people who have had an influence on her.

“I based this picture off my lifestyle and what has made me into what I am today,” said Akilah, who attends Eastern Senior High School, on her winning entry’s gallery page.

Akilah’s artwork can be seen here, along with an online gallery of other contestants’ entries.
