Halle Berry has officially been linked to star in the upcoming thriller "The Hive," directed by Brad Anderson ("Vanishing on 7th Street," "The Machinist") Although reports had been circulating about Berry being in the film earlier this year, the actual casting and the director had been up in the air until now. Similar to her roles in "Gothika" and "Perfect Stranger," Berry will once again be playing a woman racing against the clock to solve a problem while learning more about herself in the process:

According to sources, the fast-paced thriller had been the the object of desire for several top actresses, but ultimately Berry was able to commit to the project after clearing up some scheduling conflicts. "The Hive" director Anderson gushed about Berry as an actress, claiming, "I'm thrilled to be working with Halle on this… It's a formidable role for an equally formidable actress." Production will begin mid-summer in Los Angeles, with Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions having scooped up the rights for domestic distribution. We're glad to see the Academy Award winner attached to something that hopefully won't be sent straight to DVD like her last project, "Dark Tide." Recently, Berry has been in the news for the announcement of her impending third marriage to former "Dark Tide" co-star Olivier Martinez.

Given that Berry's past thrillers rarely receive rave reviews from critics and moviegoers alike, does "The Hive" sound like it will break the mold?
