LOL.

Honestly, I’m no longer offended by the tricks of the trade because it’s obvious these companies are keen to benefiting off of the back lash from Black consumers. Unfortunately, there’s no bad press in these streets and the trolling of Black culture often becomes trends, thus giving these aforementioned companies the top dollar. H&M lucked up on that end with the “coolest monkey in the jungle” fiasco, however, the latest endeavor from  Italian beauty brand Wycon Cosmetics was a straight up foul on the play.

trying it

The Milan-based beauty company thought naming their new line of gel polishes after well-known R&B and hip-hop songs, including “Drop It Like It’s Hot,” “Candy Shop” and “Bootylicious” would be the perfect bait for their consumer. And obviously, because certain marketing teams love to “keep the people going” they saved the “best” for last by naming their darkest nail color: “Thick as a Nigga.”

LOL. Excuse my vernacular when I say: YA’LL GOTTA CHILL.

The polish name was  inspired by the song “Thick Nigga” from artist DBangz, according to writer Declan Eytan for Forbes magazine. After being berated by countless unhappy consumers, they offered a tepid response we’ve come to know.

“We’re sorry that this post has triggered these types of reactions: every color from our Gel On collection is inspired, with a cheerful attitude and a pinch of naivety, by famous song titles, many of which derive from the landscape of hip hop . . . Wycon is the brand for everybody #nobodyexcluded is our motto and we didn’t mean to offend anybody!

In the words of JAY-Z, “We don’t believe you, you need more people!” It’s pretty laughable at this point and I wonder if ignoring them all together would be the best practice in stopping these trend worthy products. But we go on and live to fight another day.
