On Sept. 7 and 10, 2001, Michael Jackson delighted thousands of fans at Madison Square Garden during his "30th Anniversary Celebration." It was taped for CBS as a commemoration of his decades in the music business and is remembered as a milestone leading toward his tragic death nine years later.

Actress Jurnee Smollet-Bell, though just a kid, was there for the second show with her brother, future Empire star, Jussie, and remembered how amazed she was with Jackson's theatrics, stage command and giving the audience all he had. The concert, however was overshadowed by another historical event: the next morning, terrorists attacked the United States, collapsing the World Trade Center just a few miles south of where Jackson performed.
