Comedian Kevin Hart is in talks to star in Warner Bros. and Overbrook Entertainment’s remake of Uptown Saturday Night (1974) produced by Will Smith and written by Black-ish creator Kenya Barrisaccording to Variety.

The original film starred Academy-award winning actor Sidney Poitier (Steve Jackson) and comedian Bill Cosby (Wardell Franklin), who sneak out to an illegal club and get robbed for their wallets one of them containing a winning lottery ticket. The remake of the comedy was to happen years ago with the possibility of Smith or Denzel Washington starring in the lead role. However, both high-profile actors have been too busy to commit to the character, which has led the studio to seek out Hart as the lead.

While negotiations between the studio and the Night School star take place, Warner Bros. is currently looking for a director film and will then search for the appropriate co-star for the comedian.

Hart is the Hollywood’s most profitable comedian. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is the actor’s largest grossing movie to date and has made over $962 million worldwide. There is currently a sequel to the film in development by Sony. Jumanji stars Hart and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

Hart will appear on the big screen alongside Tiffany Haddish in September when Night School opens in theaters nationwide.
