In celebration of the International Day of the Girl, UNICEF shared a powerful clip of girls around the world lip-syncing to Beyoncé‘s “Freedom,” from the highly acclaimed album Lemonade.

The charity took to Twitter to share the inspirational video with a note that emphasized the God-given right to live without the fear of being abused: “What is freedom for girls to you? We’ll go 1st. #FreedomForGirls is living w/o fear of violence.” The video caption piggy-backs off of the tweet with the following: “Investing in girls helps them build better lives and create a more peaceful and prosperous world for ALL.”

Backed by Beyonce´’s compelling lyricism, the clip shares statistics in relation to violence against young girls, among them:

  • Every five minutes a girl dies as a result of violence
  • One in four girls gets married as a child
  • 71% of human trafficking victims are female
  • 63 million girls worldwide have undergone female genital mutilation
  • Girls are twice as likely to be infected with HIV

Let this video live as a reminder that we are still in pursuit of freedom for all and our battle must continue for the betterment of our youth, our girls and their future. Check it out below.
