Academy Award-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o will star in the film adaptation of Trevor Noah’s memoir, Born a Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood, according to Deadline. 

On Wednesday, The Black Panther star confirmed the news on social media and shared that she was captivated when she read the book.

“When I read ‘s ‘Born A Crime,’ I could not put the book down,” she tweeted.

Nyong’o will play Noah’s mom, Patricia, who was shot in the head in 2009 by his stepfather and survived, according to Deadline.

The Daily Show host’s autobiography was released in 2016 and details his life living in apartheid South Africa.

“Born a Crime is the story of a mischievous young boy who grows into a restless young man as he struggles to find himself in a world where he was never supposed to exist,” according to Penguin Random House. 

Noah seemed elated by the news that Nyong’o has signed on.
