The diva that is Mariah Carey is as much a part of hip-hop as the MC’s who were featured on her tracks. And in the coming weeks, the musical icon will be honored for her influence on the culture.

During VH1’s “Hip Hop Honors: The ’90s Game Changers,” MC will be recognized for her trailblazing hip-hop collaborations, including “Fantasy (Remix)” with Ol’ Dirty Bastard, “Honey (Bad Boy Remix)” with The Lox and Ma$e, and “Heartbreaker” with JAY-Z.

Regina Hall will be the Mistress of Ceremonies for the evening, with a featured performance from former honoree Missy Elliott. Martin Lawrence will also gets some well deserved shine for his work in stand-up, movies, and television. Apart from celebrating hip-hop’s ability to continually push the needle, VH1 will also acknowledge those affected by Hurricane Harvey and provide viewers and attendees with opportunities to donate.

The event is going down on Sept. 17 at Paramount Studios in Hollywood and will premiere on September 18 at 9 p.m. EST. The “Hip Hop honors” has aired eight times since its debut in 2008. After a six year hiatus, it returned last year to honor Queen Latifah, Salt-N-Pepa, Lil’ Kim, and Missy Elliott, who was also celebrated in 2007. Check out some footage from last year’s show below.
