Meek Mill isn’t surprised that being on probation for the last decade landed him back in prison.

The rapper, born Robert Rihmeek Williams, spoke to NBC Nightly News host Lester Holt about his prison sentence.

Mill is fighting a two-to-four-year prison sentence for violating his probation last year.

“It was always a thought in the back of mind that 10 years probation would bring me back to prison,” he told Holt in an over the phone interview.

Mill said that when he gets out of prison, he will go out and help people of color in similar situations.

“I think God put me in this position to…open up eyes for other young black men,” he said.

The Philadelphia rapper was charged with dealing drugs and gun possession in 2008 when he was 19. He only served seven months in prison and had been on probation ever since.

Ever since his arrest, fans and fellow celebrities have called for his release and have been advocating for prison reform.

New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft visited Mill in prison on Tuesday and told reporters that he “shouldn’t be here.”

The judge who sentenced him said that his history of drug use and past arrests while on probation warranted the prison term. His lawyers have accused her of a”personal vendetta,” according to Philly.com.
