The Dr. Oz Show is tackling the serious issue of violence and grief by bringing together the Mothers of the Movement, a collective of moms who’ve lost their children to violence, and the mothers of slain police officers.

The ladies will discuss universal issues, such as managing the five stages of grief (denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance) and life after loss, but also tackle more controversial issues, such as racism in America. And, perhaps most challenging, how to move forward after such a devastating event.

Gwen Carr, the mother of Eric Garner, spoke about seeing her son die on camera.

And Geneva Reed-Veal, the mother of Sandra Bland, implored people to action.

This isn’t the first time the Mothers of the Movement have spoken out. They attended this summer’s Democratic National Convention and delivered a serious message: Black lives should matter to everyone.

The Mothers of the Movement include:

  • Maria Hamilton (son: Dontre Hamilton) – Milwaukee, WI
  • Wanda Johnson (son: Oscar Grant) – Oakland, CA
