According to The Hollywood Reporter, Apple announced early Friday (June 15) morning that they signed Oprah Winfrey to a content partnership deal for their push into original television programming.

One of the most influential voices in media, she will likely produce original film and television project as well as application, books and other content for the Apple TV platform. Winfrey is alleged to have an on-screen role as an interviewer on the platform which reported to launch as early as next year.

“Together, Winfrey and Apple will create original programs that embrace her incomparable ability to connect with audiences around the world,” the company said in a statement. “Winfrey’s projects will be released as part of a lineup of original content from Apple.”

The deal is a significant win for the tech giant as traditional Hollywood studios and streaming services Netflix and Amazon were in a bidding war to sign Winfrey. They refused to comment on the financial agreement of the deal.

The pact, however, is non-exclusive allowing Winfrey to remain as the chairman and CEO of her OWN network. The producer’s Harpo Films will also own any content created under the partnership with Apple.
