The Bordelons are on their way back, and baby, they aren’t playing around! Last season millions of viewers fell in love with Ava DuVernay’s captivating family drama, Queen Sugargetting caught up in every twist and turn of Nova, Charley and Ralph Angel’s life. After being honored by the African American Critics Association and winning at the American Black Film Festival Honors and the NAACP Image Awards, the series is ready to return this summer.

If you haven’t seen the show, head to Hulu RIGHT NOW to get caught up on the first season before it returns in June.

When we last left off, Nova (Rutina Wesley), Charley (Dawn-Lyen Gardner) and Ralph Angel (Kofi Siriboe) were fighting to save their father’s farm from their neighbors who were hell-bent on snatching it away. Meanwhile, after finding out some haunting news from the past, Aunt Violet (Tina Linford) and Hollywood (Omar J. Dorsey) are left wondering if their relationship will survive.

The first season finale of Queen Sugar brought in 2.76 million views, making it one of the most popular cable telecasts for women on Wednesday nights. DuVernay, the show’s creator and executive producer credited its success to the fans, who also made the series one of the most talked about on social media.

“The ratings have been really significant and stellar for a show of this type on a basic cable network that did not have a legacy of this kind of work,” DuVernay told EBONY last December. “So the fact that [viewers] came for it, and stayed for it, is something that I just really want to thank people for.”

DuVernay continued: “My favorite thing to talk to [Oprah] about are the tweets. She just enjoys them so much, and she’ll usually call me or text me the tweet that makes her laugh the most. She has really been enjoying Black Twitter.”

And Black Twitter won’t have to wait much longer for the return of one of its favorite shows. Wednesday night, the network released a teaser of the upcoming season.

Queen Sugar returns to OWN for a two-night premiere on June 20 and 21.
