Ava DuVernay’s lush family drama, Queen Sugar, will return to OWN next year for its third season. The Louisiana set series follows the Bordelon siblings as they attempt to uphold their late father’s legacy and sugar cane farm while mending their own broken relationships.

Queen Sugar‘s renewal isn’t the only exciting news for OWN today. DuVernay just expanded her first-look deal at Harpo Films— Oprah Winfrey’s production shingle for TV and digital media. Next on the duo’s slate is DuVernay’s Central Park Five limited series which is headed to Netflix.

“I’m so proud of Ava and her ability as a filmmaker to challenge the status quo and push for inclusiveness onscreen and behind the camera,” Winfrey stated in a press release sent to EBONY.com. “I love, love, love the work we have been able to create so far. I am looking forward to developing many more meaningful projects together.”

DuVernay also expressed excitement at the news.

“There is fresh air and room to roam, ” DuVernay added. “There is an artist-driven atmosphere and an intention to share stories that nourish. There is a spirit of inclusivity and imagination moving at all times. This is the new era of OWN. ”

Queen Sugar regularly ranks among the top five most watched series on cable and is continually one of the most discussed shows on social media. The series also continues to bring critical praise for its acting and all-female production crew.

The Oscar and Emmy-nominated director is slated to release Disney’s sci-fi family film, A Wrinkle in Time, which will debut March 9, 2018.

Queen Sugar’s mid-season finale airs Aug. 2 at 10 p.m. on OWN.
