The world has been hit with the loss of another iconic musician. Rock and Roll legend Chuck Berry has passed at the age of 90.

According to ABC News, St. Charles County, Missouri police said that they responded to a medical emergency on Buckner Road at approximately 12:40 pm. to find an unresponsive man. Sadly, after administering lifesaving techniques, Mr. Berry was pronounced dead at 1:26 pm.

Berry, who was born in St. Louis, MO, shaped the style of rock and roll with his stage tricks (infamous duck walk across the stage), guitar licks and unapologetic confidence. His music moved the dance floor with songs about cars, girls and wild parties. It was without doubt that Berry brought life to the stage.

This would surely spark influence on groups to come such as The Beatles, The Beach Boys and The Rolling Stones.

Berry’s catalogue include hits such as “Maybellene”, a flirtatious tune where he and the lady of the evening went for a car stroll; “Johhny B. Goode”, a story about a boy who wasn’t skilled in too much but could kick off a nice guitar riff; “Roll Over Beethoven”, “Sweet Little Sixteen”, and “Memphis, Tennessee”, which derived from a “very old and quiet bluesy” selection by muddy waters that he heard as a teen.

His talents and influential contributions to the genre led to numerous accolades, among them being a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1984. In 2000, Berry was recognized by the Kennedy Center Honors and most recently, he was presented with Sweden’s prestigious Polar Music Prize in 2014.

Berry was also among the first class to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986.

Last October, the rock legend announced that he would be releasing a new album on his 90th birthday. The title was simply but appropriately titled Chuck and was due for a 2017 release. It would have marked his first album in 38 years.

ABC News shared a statement from Berry regarding the album, which he dedicated to his wife of 68 years.

“My darlin’ I’m growing old! I’ve worked on this record for a long time. Now I can hang up my shoes!” he said.

Rest in Rock and Roll Heaven, Mr. Berry.
