Colin Kaepernick is not backing down about taking a knee to protest racial injustice in the U.S.

The Seattle Seahawks contacted the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback about possibly being a backup quarterback for Russell Wilson but wanted Kaepernick to sign with the stipulation that he does not take a knee during the 2018 NFL season, TMZ reports.

Kaepernick did not agree with that proposed requirement and the team canceled a planned workout with him.

“I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color,” Kaepernick said in 2016 when the firestorm around his kneeling ignited. “To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”

Kaepernick has had a difficult time signing with an NFL team since he left the 49ers in 2017 but has ramped up his social activism by pledging $1 million to underserving communities.

He filed a grievance against the NFL saying that team owners worked together to keep the quarterback unemployed.
