With the nominations for the 2015 Golden Globes being released this morning, Selma continues to make strides weeks before its theatrical release. The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. biopic surrounding his famous march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama to fight for equal voting rights has been nominated for Best Picture. Ava DuVernay was recognized with a nomination for Best Director, and David Oyelewo (who stars as Dr. King) earned a nomination for Best Actor. Finally, a Best Original Song nomination was awarded to John Legend and Common for “Glory.”

With the film being released in select theaters on Christmas Day and a national release on January 9 of next year, these nominations are sure to bring forth more interest in what is shaping up to be a box-office smash.

As well, Quvenzhané Wallis was recognized with a nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture—Comedy or Musical for the upcoming update of Annie. (Annie receives a nationwide release Christmas Day.)
