Serena Williams has come back with a vengeance.
The 23-time Grand Slam champion defeated Kazakhstan’s Zarina Diyas in 7-5, 6-3 sets at the BNP Paribas Open in California on Thursday.
Her win is the first singles match Williams has played since taking a 14-month break after giving birth to her daughter, Olympia, in September.
“It was incredible,” the tennis superstar said after her match. “It’s been over a year and a kid later and I get to go home to her now, and I’m excited about that.”
Her husband and Reddit co-founder, Alexis Ohanian, her mom, her sisters, including Venus Williams looked on as she defeated Diyas in straight sets, according to ESPN.
