Solange Leads the Pack in 2017 Soul Train Award Nominations

The 2017 Soul Train Award nominees have been announced, with plenty of familiar faces due to make a splash this year.

Soul star Solange Knowles leads the pack with a total of seven nominations, including Best R&B/Soul Female Artist, the highly coveted Video of the Year and Song of the Year for hit single “Cranes in the Sky.”

Bruno Mars comes in a close second with six nods of his own, including Song of the Year for his hit single “That’s What I Like,” and Album/Mixtape of the Year for 24K Magic. Other notable nods include Cardi B’s debut hit “Bodak Yellow” nominated for Rhythm & Bars Award, competing against Kendrick Lamar’s “Humble.”

As per usual, the broadcast will honor two R&B artists who have made a lasting impression on the genre. Toni Braxton will receive the Don Cornelius Legend Award and female R&B trio SWV will honored with the Lady of Soul Award, handed off by last year’s recipient, Brandy.
