The cast for Disney’s live-action version of The Lion King is coming together quite quickly. Earlier this year, the studio announced that legendary actor James Earl Jones would be reprising his role in the 21st-century film as Mufasa. Atlanta star Donald Glover —who is also going to make his Star Wars debut as a young Lando Calrissian in the new Hans Solo spin-off has been cast as Simba.

It appears that Disney might have also found their Scar in 12 Years A Slave star Chiwetel Ejiofor. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Oscar nominee is currently in talks to take on the role made famous by actor Jeremy Irons. Seth Rogan, Billy Eichner and John Oliver are already set to star as Pumbaa, Timon and Zazu respectively.

We think Ejiofor would be a pretty dope edition to the cast; his voice definitely would give “Be Prepared” the gloomy, sinister tone needed to make the traitorous character’s story arc work for a brand new (and older) audience.

The British actor isn’t the only star in talks to join the cast. Beyoncé is also rumored to be in talks to voice Nala. We’ll find out soon enough if the rumors are true since The Lion King is already in production in Los Angeles.

Jon Favreau, who directed the stunning live-action version of The Jungle Book is going to bring this classic Disney tale to life.

The Lion King is slated to come roaring into theaters July 19, 2019.
