Tyler Perry to Portray Colin Powell in Dick Cheney Film

Writer, producer and director Tyler Perry will soon lend his acting talents to a new film about former Vice President Dick Cheney. The “Madea” creator has been cast to portray former Secretary of State Colin Powell, and is set to star alongside Christian Bale as Cheney and Steve Carell as former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, according to Deadline.

Backseat is reportedly the working title of the film, but producers have yet to confirm.

Powell was the 65th U.S. Secretary of State, serving under President George W. Bush from 2001 to 2005, the first African-American to serve in that position.

Perry is one of the most commercially successful African-American filmmakers in the industry, named the highest-paid man in entertainment by Forbes in 2011. While he is best known for his work behind the camera, the 48-year-old acts in many of his productions as well.

Outside of his own Tyler Perry Studios, he took over the role of James Patterson’s Alex Cross from Morgan Freeman in 2012, and was later cast in 2014 award-season favorite, Gone Girl.

Perry’s latest film, Tyler Perry’s Boo 2: A Madea Halloween, opens in theaters Oct. 20.
