TriStar Pictures has acquired the global rights to the film The Woman King and has brought on Oscar winners Viola Davis and Lupita Nyong’o, according to Deadline.

The movie will tell the true story of an all-female military unit in a West African country in the 18th and 19th centuries, led by Davis’ character, who fought the French for enslaving its people and for  threatening “to destroy everything they lived for,” the report says.

Nyong’o will play Davis’ daughter in the film.

The Woman King is the powerful true story of an extraordinary mother-daughter relationship,” TriStar Pictures president Hannah Minghella told Deadline. “And there’s no-one more extraordinary than Viola Davis and Lupita Nyong’o to bring them to life.”

The pair is no strangers to playing powerful women on screen. Davis currently plays high-powered attorney Annalise Keating on ABC’s How to Get Away with Murder and Nyong’o can be seen playing Nakia in Marvel’s Black Panther.
