Universal Pictures has won the rights to Terry McMillan’s best-selling novel I Almost Forgot About You and is set to produce a motion picture adaptation of the hit starring How to Get Away With Murder star Viola Davis.

The Jackal Group’s Gail Berman and Joe Earley, who acquired McMillan’s novel back in May, are producing alongside Davis, her husband and JuVee Productions partner, Julius Tennon, and director Malcolm D. Lee, who was at the helm of summer blockbuster Girls Trip, according to Deadline. Oscar- winning screenwriter Ron Bass will co-write the script with McMillian.

The author has already had four of her critically acclaimed novels turned into films, including Waiting to Exhale, How Stella Got Her Groove Back, Disappearing Acts and A Day Late & a Dollar Short.

Davis is set to play Georgia Young, a twice-divorced, successful optometrist. Despite a life full of great friends and family, she hasn’t felt a romantic spark in a while and is feeling bored and restless. She decides it’s time to change and goes on a wild journey of self-discovery, reuniting with old lovers and getting a new lease on life.
