Taraji P. Henson is Mary and she’s not one to play with! The much-buzzed-about trailer for the action thriller Proud Mary just dropped and it’s as iconic as we imagined. With Tina Turner’s iconic classic song “Proud Mary” playing in the background, Mary, a hit woman working for a Boston crime family, takes aim. She shoots first and asks questions later.

Everything takes a turn for the assassin when one of her hits goes terribly wrong and she crosses paths with a precocious young boy.

Joining Henson in the film is How to Get Away with Murder‘s Billy Brown, relative newcomer Jahi Di’Allo Winston, Neal McDonough, Margaret Avery, Xander Berkeley and Danny Glover. Glover plays Benny, Mary’s father figure and brutal boss. Brown stars as Tom — Mary’s former lover. McDonough is a cold-blooded killer and Mary’s nemesis, Avery is Benny’s elegant wife and Berkeley is the drug-dealing sadist Mary is after.  This hit might provoke an all-out turf war.

With wigs, boots and guns galore we already know Henson is going to kill it in Proud Mary. Mary looks like she could give Cookie a run for her money. There is no release date set for Proud Mary just yet, but we know it’s set to make a splash in theaters sometime next year.

Until then you can catch Henson when Empire returns Sept. 27 at 9 p.m. on Fox.
