As we’ve seen with recent #OscarsSoWhite and #YouTubeBLACK campaigns, Black content creators have grown much more vocal as they continue to seek and secure greater representation in the media. UNCODE provides a platform for storytellers – independent artists, writers, filmmakers, animators, and photographers of color – to work collaboratively in producing short-form digital video content; stories intended to be viewed online and shared via social media.

This year, the series will feature stories from Atlanta, San Francisco, Oakland, Los Angeles, and throughout the Pacific Northwest. In upcoming months, the UNCODE collective will expand to include stories from contributors across the global diaspora.  EBONY is partnering with this initiative and offering UNCODE content on our site in order to help present a healthy alternative to the monolithic depiction of our communities and the meaning of Blackness.
